Guru Purnima was celebrated with great pomp and spirit at the Bidadi ashram on July 17th 2008. Close to 20,000 devotees came from far and wide to take blessings from Swamiji and offer bhiksha. Swamiji met each and every one and gave blessings through out the day.

Following are some of the pictures taken during Guru Purnima.

Significance of Guru Poornima

What is Guru Poornima?

Guru Poornima is the day to pay our deep gratitude to all the great gurus or Masters who have happened on planet Earth. The guru is the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance and infuses the light of awareness into our lives.

Who is a Guru?

Guru is a person who has achieved the Ultimate Truth, the state of enlightenment, as an experience and who can create the technology and the techniques to reproduce the same experience in any human being.

He is the ultimate scientist of the Inner world because he is the one who can initiate others into the same experience that happened in him. He gives the ‘weapons of knowledge’ through his words, body language and the techniques he has developed. These, when used with awareness, can simply pull you out of any kind of depression and negative thinking and lead you to a positive, blissful living.

What is the need for a guru in one’s life?
It is very difficult especially for the modern mind to understand the need for a guru or Master.

The guru is the one who gives you a glimpse of the Real, the truth of who you are.
He is not here to teach; he is here to awaken.
The guru is the only scripture which is alive.

A person who reproduces the visualization from his head to your head is a teacher, an acharya. The person who reproduces the experience from his being to your being is a Master, guru. That is the difference between the teacher and guru.

The greatest gift on planet Earth is the rare event of an enlightened Master happening in one’s life. He is the ultimate luxury.

The guru is like dynamite because he has exploded in 360 degrees and he has the capacity to create that same explosion of enlightenment in each and every one. When you are around a living Master, your potential to experience pure, eternal bliss or nithya-ananda gets heightened.

Whenever a disciple just sits in the presence of the Master, the same experience of enlightenment which happened in the Master is reproduced in the disciple. This great happening is Upanishad -just sitting.

Surrender towards God is difficult because you don’t know where God is or who God is. The guru is One with the Whole; he has reached the Ultimate. Through him, you can also take the quantum jump into the arms of God.

Life is a divine flow. The more river-like one is, the more one is in tune with life. But we have become stagnant. The guru’s whole work is to bring back the flow of life so that you start becoming joyous and utterly happy and blissful for no reason at all.
Just ‘to be’ is enough; one need not ‘have’ anything to be blissful.

The only thing standing between you and your true nature of bliss is your ego. The process of becoming a disciple is the process of renouncing your ego. The guru-disciple relationship is a device to help the disciple drop the ego. The ego is very difficult to drop because dropping it means losing the solid identity that you have been carrying thinking you need it for survival. Dropping the ego looks like death when actually it is the ego that stands between you and life.

Dropping the ego is possible only in a relationship of deep trust, love and reverence with the guru. Then slowly you gather the courage and risk dropping the only thing you cling onto throughout your life - your ego, because now you know you will only fall into the unfailing safety net of the infinite love and compassion of Existence embodied by the guru.

The Guru-Disciple Relationship
The guru-disciple relationship is the most extraordinary relationship in the world.
As you walk with him, you walk in the light of Existence, away from the darkness of ignorance. You leave behind all the problems of your life and move towards the peak experiences of life.

The guru has much to say but it cannot be said because words are too poor to convey what he has to commune. In the deep, vibrant silence there is a communion. Nothing is said, nothing is heard, but a flame is transferred.

It is an incomparable journey where the guru leads you from the visible to the invisible, from the material to the divine, from the ephemeral to the eternal.

Gurum Bhaje - Guru Poornima 2008 with Paramahamsa Nithyananda

This Guru Poornima we have the rare opportunity to be in the presence of the living enlightened Master Paramahamsa Nithyananda.

It is only on this day that Paramahamsa directly accepts any kind of offering (bhiksha) that comes from your heart, be it fruits or flowers or whatever. Offering bhiksha to the embodiment of Existence, the guru, is actually a wonderful technique devised by the rishis, inner scientists, for offloading your karmas..

The Guru Gita says, you can neither add to nor subtract from the guru by what you give or don’t give him. Just by the very act of accepting your bhiksha (karma), his grace starts flowing into your life. This is the ultimate expression of compassion

DOUBT, FAITH AND TRUST!

Where you stand - Paramahamsa Nithyananda

One day, a disciple falls into the river and shouts out to his Master for help. The Master says, ‘You are atman - soul, stand up!’ The disciple says, ‘Teach me Vedanta later on but now save my life! The Master says, ‘Stand up!’ and the disciple musters the courage and stands up to realize that the water is only knee deep! When you stand up, you always realize that the water is only up to the knee level. Whatever you may think as major problems, if you stand up, you will realize that they are only ankle deep, not even knee deep. But the thing is, how to stand up? The Master is the yoga danda or stick of support for you to stand up. Having his support, you can stand up. Be very clear: when the support of the Master is there, you can stand up as an independent, or an individual

One more thing – the faith or trust on God or the Master is actually called the yoga danda. Never think that you are doing them a favor by placing your trust on them. You are doing a favor to yourself.
When your intellect reaches its peak, it becomes intelligence. When your emotion reaches its peak, it becomes love. When your Being ripens and reaches its peak, it experiences the space called Trust. Trust is the space by creating which you are doing a favor to yourself. I am letting myself be used by you to stand up. You can trust a stone, a statue or a tree – anything you trust, you will reach the same goal.

When a small fire is created in the forest, where you don’t get anything to cook and eat, will you allow it to die? With all care, you will protect it, is it not? In the same way, if you get an inch of faith, keep it alive in your heart and work all possible ways for that to grow intensely and deeply. People tell me, ‘I have doubt and faith, Swamiji. What do I do?’ Tell your Master that he is the one who gives you both, and pray that both should leave you. Surrender both and relax.

'No special experience can make you surrender. Only deep trust can make you surrender'.

"When Master happens in our lives, nothing else is needed.
If he does not happen, nothing else is of use."

Sitting at the feet of the Master

When you watch something, everything that you see gets recorded in you. When you sit with the Master, nothing gets recorded inside you…only the Energy gets recorded! You will sit for 10 hours with me but you will not be able to recall anything that I said because I don’t allow you to record anything. I flood my Consciousness into your Being so that the recordings from your past get burnt away.

Upanishad means sitting with the Master. For enlightenment, you need 3 things – sitting with the Master, sitting with the Master and sitting with the Master…

The great enlightened Master Shankara sang:

Satsangatve nissangatvam, nissangatve nirmohatvam, nirmohatve nischalathatvam, nischalathatve jeevan mukthi hee.

It means: when you sit with the Master, you don’t accumulate new engrams – memories. And the old engrams lose their power over you. When they lose power over you, they disappear and when they disappear you become enlightened!

I will not add more engrams to you. I don’t work on your intellect, I work with your energy. How do you find out if you have carried back energy or engrams from me? If you are alert and alive, it is energy, if you are dull and tired, it is engrams.

"The presence of the Master is like phosphorus:
wherever you keep it, it burns away everything"

Hammering from the Master

"You are blessed - If you are hammered by the Master!"

The Guru is like a potter. While a potter is creating the pot, he is clearing away the unwanted with one hand while supporting the pot from inside with the other hand. While he hammers contineously from the outside, he also goes on supporting from with in. This is the work of the Master.

If you are being hammered by the master, consider yourself blessed. It means you have earned it! A Master does not hammer anyone and everyone - hes not interested in doing that. He does it not because he enjoys hammering. He does it because of his great unimaginable and unmeasurable compassion.

The Master is a reflection. A reflection of your own inner self. You being invites the Master to hit you so that you will awaken. Why is he hitting you? The unconscious disciple sometimes doesnt understand the hit. But the hit happens only because there is a deep longing within the disciple to be awake. The master simply responds to that longing.

With maturity the disciple starts realizing and understanding the hit from the master. When a master hits, it is simply pure love. It is love because he is creating you and moulding you. Hes making you aware and responsible. He is trying to make you aware of your true nature. He is connecting you to your SELF.

But to receive this hit one needs to be deserving. A master has no vested interest in you. Hes not interested in using his anger on you just for nothing. You are his interest. So when you deserve the hit, sometimes the hit comes. And it comes only to make you a little more aware, a little more responsible, a little more conscious.

As time goes by and your awareness increases, you become aware that even while the Master is hammering at you and hitting at you, he is still loving you and supporting you. Hes always there. In any situation, whatsoever it may be, Hes always there. His loving support is always there

"When Master happens in our lives, nothing else is needed.
If he does not happen, nothing else is of use."

The Masters work on you

Just open up!

In Master's own words: When I throw words at you like – 'you disturbed me' – I intend it to have a particular effect. I want you to decide, 'I will not disturb him anymore. Whatever I have been doing, I will tone that down also. I will surrender that also. I will become a nobody. Then the energy clot becomes energy!'

When you start thinking, 'I never did anything! There are so many people who do many worse things than me but he accuses only me! As if others have not disturbed him, you start creating violence, resistance, anger within yourself. Resistance creates the first seed for the clot. Then you add more and more stuff to it. Slowly – not even slowly, immediately, you take out the file of all past incidents that support it – and in ten minutes you are already into depression. This is the art and science of creating depression.

You create depression for yourself. Nobody creates depression for you. The moment you understand this, you will never create depression for yourself. The moment you feel resistance, drop it. Tell yourself: no, no... Relax...Wait. The tumor simply won’t form. The thought will simply become part of your energy. The moment you understand the energy clot, it dissolves and gives solid energy to you.

Here I am clearing your doubts with all compassion and love. I am operating on your tumor with all my compassion and love. My words are the gnana katka – the sword of knowledge – with which I am slowly performing the operation. My love and compassion are the anesthesia. If you don’t resist, I will go deep and remove the whole tumor. How much I am able to go deep, that much of the tumor I can remove.

But I will wait with all my love and compassion – because I know the art of waiting.
I will wait for when you will open the other part of the tumor also. I will wait till you open the whole tumor.

I am not the dream that fulfills your fantasies. I am the dream to awaken you

Guru Conflict

This is an important subject: Guru Conflict! It is nothing but a conflict inside yourself. There is no real conflict between the real masters. If Rama and Krishna meet, they will hug each other, but Rama’s monkeys and Krishna’s cows will fight!

The energy of all the great masters is one and the same; all masters are the embodiment of the same energy; there is no need for any conflict. I always tell people: go around, pluck flowers from as many gardens as you wish to and make a nice garland! But they don’t pluck from any

garden; instead they bring only thorns – trouble! If you are doing window shopping, you are not learning from any guru. If you really know the knack of plucking flowers, you will become adept at plucking flowers from gardens.

When you go from guru to guru, you will become more intense, but if you don’t learn from any guru, it is better that you stay with only one guru. After all, what are you going to learn from so many gurus that you can’t learn from one? Going to the first guru itself is wrong if you are doing just window shopping. Don’t torture him and torture yourself; liberate the guru with whom you are living by following him in the right fashion!

If you feel the guru is only a teacher and not the path, simply leave him. The rule of thumb is, when you meet the real guru, your heart will simply fall, you won’t even think of anyone else!

"When Master happens in our lives, nothing else is needed.
If he does not happen, nothing else is of use."

The Master-Disciple Relationship

‘It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma’, said Winston Churchill about Russia during World War II.

Without any reservation one could use this expression to describe a master’s behavior. Perhaps even: a puzzle in a riddle in a mystery inside an enigma!

Master once said to us,
‘To each one of you I am different. The way I interact with one person depends on the needs of the being of that person, which even that person may not understand. Do not discuss how I treat you with one another. You will only cause misunderstanding and confusion. Do not try and put me in a frame’. ‘You are Krishna; you are Shiva; you are Mother…’.
I will not allow myself to be put in a frame. The moment you box me in a frame I die. I am a living master. I change every instant. Do not try to predict my actions, my words, my thoughts; you will only have suffering.

There was a far deeper meaning in what the master said than was obvious. He wanted each one to flow with him as he was at every moment; savor him here and now. People worry about when they will see him next while still in his presence. He says, ‘What foolishness! Just enjoy my presence. By thinking about when you will see me next, you are wasting the opportunity to be joyful now!’

It is not for the disciple to unravel the mystery of his guru; not even to try and understand; the proposition is sure to be a failure. All one can do is to BE, and enjoy the bliss of that moment.

Master explained:

‘Who is a guru? A guru is a being in whom Nithya Ananda, eternal bliss, is expressed; one who creates and transmits a formula and the space for others to experience the same eternally. From time immemorial, the guru-disciple parampara (master-disciple lineage and relationship) started in the Himalayas. It is the oldest of relationships. The very idea of relating with one another started only after this relationship. It is also the last relationship before enlightenment. Before this, humans were like animals, barbaric, in whatever culture and religion; all civilizations started with the advent of the guru-disciple relationship.

Even Masters who taught that there was no need for a guru became gurus themselves, despite themselves. All knowledge, not just spiritual knowledge, needs a guru, the person who leads us from darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge.

In this modern day, people tend to question the need for a spiritual guru, but not the other kinds of gurus. One respects those who teach a skill that helps you earn money, but spiritual masters are optional. If you respect spiritual knowledge you will not question the need for a spiritual master. If you are not guided by your master, some one will guide you even if that person is not capable. Man needs a master. It is your choice whether to select a spiritual master or an unenlightened person.

If you choose a political person as your master, he will rule you by fear. If you choose some other celebrity, that person will rule you by greed. Only a spiritual master rules you with love and liberates you.

How to recognize an Enlightened Master

Somebody once asked Swamiji: How can one recognize an enlightened master?

It’s a very difficult answer. Not that it’s difficult to find out if one is enlightened. It will take but just one moment. The question is difficult because – if you have no urge, no desire to find, then there is no way anyone can help you to find. Depending on how thirsty you are, when you are in a desert, you will know when you find real water because your thirst will be quenched. If it’s a mirage and you thought it was real and ran towards it, you will know as soon as you come close to it, that it’s not real. If you are really hungry, your appetite will be satisfied when you eat food. But if you are not hungry, how can food satisfy you? It is very difficult for a man who is not hungry to find out what food is. If you have an appetite and hunger then something about being around an enlightened master will start satisfying your desire. Your mind will calm down, your being will start feeling a sense of peace. Its like you have come back home where you belong. This is the only way.

A small story: A man walked into the police station to report that his wife was missing. The sergeant began writing up the case.
"How tall is she?"
"About so high, give or take a little."
"How much does she weigh?"
"About average, I guess."
"Color of eyes?"
"I would say they were neutral. I'm not too sure."
"Color of hair?"
"I don't know, it changes."
"What was she wearing?"
"I suppose a hat and coat."
"Was she carrying anything?"
Yes, she had a dog on a leash."
"What kind of dog?"
"A pedigreed black-and-white German shepherd, weighing fifty pounds, six hands high, license No. 780108976 C.D.2, wearing a black collar, slightly deaf in the right ear, and answers to the name Sheru."

Do you see what I mean? If you really have the desire to know, you will know! If you don’t have the desire to know, nothing can be done. If you are just greedy but have no appetite you will not know what is food. Nothing can help you, until you develop an appetite. And this has to happen naturally. It cannot be forced.

Only a person who has lived life fully and enjoyed it and now has a desire to go beyond and learn about the life beyond will recognize immediately when they come across an enlightened person. It is impossible to miss. Recognition needs no knowledge or declaration of ones enlightenment. One simply knows.

The truth is whatever you have found in life is that what you have intensely desired. Be it a hellish life or a life of joy and fulfillment. It has been what you have wished for. I know its hard to accept, but if you haven’t yet got what you wanted and have not been able to recognize an enlightened master when you come across one, then its time you looked IN.

There have been instances where people who are not enlightened have helped others to get enlightened. It is said that if the desire of the seeker is tremendous, even an unenlightened master can help you get enlightened. With deep trust even an unenlightened master can revolutionize your life. However the reverse is also true. Even an enlightened master cannot help you if you are not ready. It depends on you. It totally depends on you!

Master, the ultimate surgeon

When you see the Master, he says you are not what you think you are. He tells you that you are not a mere human being with spiritual experience, but a spiritual being having a human experience.

Not only are you not ready to believe him, you are acutely uncomfortable as well. You get frightened and run away.

After sometime, when the Master touches you in some way, you feel attracted to him, you stop resisting, you listen, but you are not yet convinced. After some time, the energy of the Master attracts you and you start remembering him even when he is not around; he becomes a part of your being. Still, you are not ready to give up your own value systems and beliefs; you play a game of hide and seek with the Master.

Once you start trusting him more, he forces you to experience your reality. This is initiation, or the first experience. But even after that experience, sometimes you deny it.

The Master is a person who removes the ultimate cancerous tumour that happens to our being, which is our ego. He does surgery directly on that tumour. He never allows you to be stuck or be comfortable with anything less than the enlightened state. Even as you start progressing spiritually, you may get stuck in some layer; you won’t even know you are stuck. In all these situations, the Master will push you again and again to move forward. He transforms your whole life.

Whenever a surgeon comes with a knife, you may think he is going to hurt you, but the knife of a surgeon is not for killing, it is for healing. The Master is the ultimate master surgeon to remove the ego at all levels, be it materialistic or spiritual. People have spiritual ego when they have the ‘holier than thou’ attitude. The more you allow his surgery to happen, the more you realise the truth. A few people run away from the operating table during surgery; that becomes dangerous. Before surrendering to the Master, do all the window-shopping, checking, verifying, and only then surrender; and once you surrender, allow him to work on you.

The Master has unconditional love for you. He seeks nothing from you. He is interested only in your liberation. To achieve this, he is willing to go to any lengths. The greatest gift to the human life is the gift of an enlightened master.

what is initiation

Whenever you need to heal yourself, you need inner healing, you need to bring yourself again to the life energy. Many times you can see, a simple disturbance from the current experience of the outside world or from the past memory inside you can drain your energy.

Another thing that drains your energy is taking too many decisions. For example, you can try to go and sit in your office, not do any work but just take some five to six major decisions and you are already tired.

The truths, ideas, words which bring you out of that tiredness, that low mood, that depression and give you the energy and confidence, are what I call shaastra-shastras, knowledge-weapons.

The truths which not only bring you out of depression but also destroy the source of depression once for all, are called mantra. ‘Man traayate iti mantraha’, the words which show the path for human beings are mantra.

When any mantra comes from the enlightened experience, from the pure inner space, you do not know why, how or what but you suddenly you see that it is true. It ‘clicks’. One part of your logic continues to fight with it because if you accept the Truth and start expressing it in your life, all your vested interests and many things which you thought of as life are at stake. But your core, your being, will have that click, ‘I know what he is talking is the Truth.’ There may be a doubt in the corner of your heart, but your very core feels connected. You can’t understand logically, but suddenly your heart feels connected to the words being uttered, the truth being expressed. That connection, that ‘click’ is what I call ‘initiation’.

In the tradition of Vedanta, we have three beautiful words, shravana, manana and nidhidhyasana. Shravana means intense listening; manana means internalizing, contemplating; nidhidhyasana means living it.

Initiation means the great Truths, the words which lead you to the Truth, a clear path which leads you to the Truth. If it is experientially transmitted, if you have at least one glimpse, then the initiation has happened, then you are initiated.

When I use word ‘initiation’ there will be so many doubts, ‘I am already initiated by some other guru, can I have initiation? If I get initiated can I go to some other gurus and learn something?’

Perfectly alright, nothing wrong! I always tell people, go to all the gardens and pluck flowers and make a beautiful garland for yourself. It is not like a shop that if you go to one shop, you don’t go to another! Our ego is such, if it is beaten by ten to twelve gurus, only then it will die! So, there is nothing wrong in approaching different gurus. Learn all the best things from all the sources and enrich your life.

Surrender – The Ultimate Technique

The word surrender usually brings a feeling of unease to people minds. Ordinarily it is the feeling that only weaklings surrender, people who are weak! Surrender is not a word often associated with positive actions. After all, "surrender in the name of the law" usually means trouble for someone. And we know that when one side surrenders to another in battle, it's a sign that they've given up any hope for victory. This is absolutely wrong.

So what is this Surrender? Surrender means to yield ownership, to relinquish control over what we consider ours. Surrender means you are feeling that you are not capable of doing anything anymore, so you surrender everything. In the external act of placing what one considers important to oneself at the Masters feet, one gives a bit of oneself to a Higher Source. In giving, one feels lighter within, less limited. Placing the I and the Mine at the masters feet, helps one to lose the identity or ego which is the only thing the guru asks for - the limited identity of the disciple, so he may leave it behind and grow into the limitlessness of the Supreme. To surrender one needs to be extremely courageous, because once you surrender there is no going back. There are no questions. It is unconditional. Surrender to anything or anyone, and see how much you will learn from it. There is nothing more beautiful and liberating than this wonderful act of surrender.

Whenever one is able to surrender, the master will appear. In surrender one becomes vacant, empty. Then the spiritual force rushes towards you and fills you. Whenever the opportunity arises in your life, just Surrender! Do not lose the moment. Surrender! And the master will be there for you. This is just the beginning… of ones Transformation.

The Eternal Relationship

What is a relationship?

That which can reveal to you dimensions in you which you don’t even know exist inside you, giving you the experience and thus proving to you that you are also capable of loving someone or something. It shows you can also love, you can also sacrifice to that extent for someone.

Relationship is that which awakens the unknown dimensions in you. A relationship with anyone or anything will lead you to the Ultimate relationship - with the Master.

When you fall in love whether it is with a boy or girl or a deity or a guru, you see dimensions of you that you never knew existed inside you. You become more responsible. You are able to experience the juice of life.

The relationship with the Master, who is One with Existence, is deeper than any other relationship; it is a Being level connection.

The form of the Master is the bridge between the Ultimate and you. Because the form is an embodiment of the Ultimate, it has both the dimensions, of man and God. When you relate with not only the form but the concept the form stands for, you reach the knowledge of the Ultimate.

The Master is all forms; and no form. He refuses to be captured in a frame, turned into a stone or worshipped as an image. The Master is beyond forms; beyond dimensions. He is infinite dimensional; infini-D!

He relates to us on multiple frames and planes, each one of which unveils the delicately beautiful and intense nature of the unique relation he has with every single being that has the fortune of entering his space.

We can relate with the Master through the various relationships in our life.
Be it dasa bhava, the master servant relationship as existed between Rama and Hanuman, or vatsalya bhava, mother’s love, as between Yasoda and Krishna, or sakha bhava, friendship, as between Krishna and Arjuna, or matru bhava, a child’s love for the mother as between Ramakrishna and Mother Kali, or madhura bhava, the love of the beloved, as between Radha and Krishna, each bhava, the attitude, is unique to that relationship between that disciple and the Master.
Each disciple on his or her quest for the Truth traverses a uniquely beautiful path with the Master as he leads you from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge.

Whenever a disciple just sits in the presence of the Master, the same experience of enlightenment which happened in the Master is reproduced in the disciple. This great happening is what is Upanishad -just sitting.

To Trust the Master

Someone once asked Swamiji: 'How can we create trust in the Master? How can we drop doubts about doing what we want to do with our hearts when our heads keep asking questions?

Answer: This is a wonderful question and very honest. Your problem is shared by many people.

First of all, you cannot create trust. Trust has to happen. Trust is not the same as faith. It is a higher level in understanding. Faith and belief are our conditioning. It is stuff we are fed from childhood. Children are suggestible. We know now that up until adolescence the brain wave patterns of children are in the alpha state and they can be easily influenced by opinion and guidance of older people. We are taught from a young age whom we should believe and whom we should distrust.

The trust we are talking about is different from conditioned faith and trust. Those arise from our head, logic and so-called knowledge inputs. Yet, deep within us, from our being, there is a constant nagging of dissatisfaction with our conditioning. Many ignore this nagging and occupy themselves with the outer world.

However, some find it impossible to ignore this inner call. They listen and move in a direction that is in tune with this voice. They turn to religion, to scriptures and finally they turn to Masters when they find themselves deeply dissatisfied with whatever they have experienced in the outer world.

The doubts that we have of the outer world carry over into our search of the inner world too. For every answer we receive, we have a dozen new questions. That is natural and as it should be. Then there comes a point where logic is exhausted. It may happen through a sudden revelation, reading something, witnessing something, listening to someone, or for no reason at all. It is as if all questions have been answered and all doubts have been cleared. I term this experience a 'click'. This click initiates a churning inside us. It starts a psychological revolution in our system.

This is when trust begins, true trust, trust that leads us to surrendering our logic to a higher state of intelligence.

Many followers remember the exact point when this happened to them: as they listened to me, looked at me, read my books or watched a DVD. A chemical reaction within them says, 'wake up, your time is up, no more questions.' Your brain issues a command that overrides logic.

We cannot force this. This happens by itself. We must be ready. I should be your Master. It must be a convergence.

People ask, 'How do we remember you once we leave your presence?' I say, 'When I am your Master and you accept me as your Master, the problem will be trying to forget me. Your Master will occupy your entire inner space - head, heart and being.'

Let your head and logic exhaust themselves with questions. They will eventually get tired, because logic has an end and spirituality is endless.

Entering onto the path is a Divine decision. It is not yours. It is God's. There is an ancient saying: Before a man decides to seek God, God has already decided to seek him. Without His decision, our decisions are impotent.

Only when He decides, our decisions have power enough to become fulfilled. Our decisions are always wavering, always divided. Our decision is at the most a majority decision, a parliamentary decision. However, that which is in the minority may become the majority tomorrow; and that which is in the majority today may not be in the majority tomorrow. Our decisions are unreliable; they are not total.

When God decides in our innermost core, the decision and commitment are total. The involvement is irrevocable. We cannot go back. The decision is bigger than us. It possesses us and we become overwhelmed by it. Only then is true discipleship born. Without God deciding for us, our decisions are of little value.

Remember that this is God's decision on your behalf. You are a medium, a vehicle for His decision to be fulfilled in life. Then things will start happening with such intensity, depth, and speed, that one remains constantly in surprise at what is happening and why it is happening, because we don't feel ourselves worthy enough and yet it happens.

Blissful effort is needed for growth. Ordinary effort won't do. It must be blissful. The moment effort becomes blissful it is almost effortless. It is effortless effort when it is blissful. When it is not blissful, it is a strain. And one can enter into the world of God only in a deep, restful mood. Hence the seeker must fulfill a paradox: he must make efforts. Certainly he must be industrious, but his effort must be a special kind of effort. It must be effortless. There should be no strain or tension in it. It should be more like play than work.

One should enjoy it. One should not do it like a duty. One should make it a joy unto itself, as if one is unconcerned about the result. The result comes whenever we are ripe. There is no need to think about it.

It comes of its own accord. Existence is fair and just. It gives what you deserve. There is not a moment's delay. If you don't deserve it, it doesn't happen no matter how much effort you make.

Right effort is effort that is not an effort. It is joy, play, love and bliss. Then miracles start happening. We are entitled to miracles, yet we never fulfill the basic condition. This is the basic condition. Then miracles are as ordinary as everything else.

The Master's appearance in your life is a summons. It is God calling you. It is good that you heard it!'

Guru and God

Guru and God both appear before me. To whom should I prostrate?
I bow before the Guru who introduced God to me.
-Kabir

In one of his discussions with fellow disciples of Ramakrishna, Vivekananda referred to Ramakrishna as God. Another disciple objected, saying, ‘Surely that is extreme. I agree that the Master is enlightened, but how can he be God?’

Vivekananda asked his fellow disciple, ‘What do you know about God?’

The fellow disciple said, ‘Oh, God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent.’

Vivekananda asked, ‘What do you mean by saying that God is omnipresent?’

The disciple said, ‘God is everywhere.’

Vivekananda said, ‘Surely then you must be able to see him now in that case.’

The disciple was confused and did not know what to say further.

Vivekananda told him, ‘To you God is a concept that you can not see, a notion that you do not even know or understand. Here is the Master in front of you who is God in reality.’

Someone asked me, ‘What is the difference between God and Guru?’

I told him, ‘What do you know about God? All you know is a bunch of words, concepts. You have no clue as to what you are talking about when you refer to God. To you he is just an idea, an imagination of what you believe to be the ultimate energy and universal consciousness, or whatever name you wish to give something you know nothing about!’

The Brahmanda Purana says,
Guru is Shiva sans his three eyes,
Vishnu sans his four arms
Brahma sans his four heads.
He is Parama Shiva himself in human form

The guru is real. He is the reality of the ultimate cosmic energy. He is here and now. He is in the present; He is the present. He is the bridge between you and the concept of God. In that sense he is greater than God.

Some one asked me, ‘Are you God?’
I told him, ‘If you do not know what or who God is, how can you ask me whether I am God? God cannot be defined. He can only be experienced.’
Let me tell you one thing clearly, ‘I am not here to prove that I am God. I am here to prove that you are God.’

Do we need a Guru?

Significance of a guru

It is very difficult especially for the modern mind to understand the need for a guru or Master.

The guru is the one who gives you a glimpse of the Real, the truth of who you are.
He is not here to teach; he is here to awaken. The guru is the only scripture which is alive.

Surrender towards God is difficult because you don’t know where God is or who God is. The guru is One with the Whole; he has reached the Ultimate. Through him, you can also take the quantum jump into the arms of God.

The only thing standing between you and your true nature of bliss is your ego. The process of becoming a disciple is the process of renouncing your ego.

As of now, any experience which you add to your being adds more and more fear or greed. Instead of that, any experience which you add to your being should become strength and awareness, leading you to more awareness. This is the cognitive shift, the psychological revolution the guru does on you that results in your complete transformation.

Learning from Life vs Learning from Master
You may ask, ‘Why do I need a guru? I can learn from life.’
Please understand, learning from life or learning from time is very hard as life teaches through pain.

Learning from Master is a very sweet experience, a very joyful experience. The Master first puts you in his lap and gives you the anesthesia of love before he starts his operation on the tumor of your ego. Because he showers his love, you will not even know the pain of going through the transformation.
But when the life teaches, life does not have the anesthesia of life. It can’t make you forget the pain and has to teach you only through pain.

Master is intense life. Not only can he teach you, he will also see to it that you go through the whole transformation beautifully and joyfully.

Swamiji says, a person who is based on low level conscious needs manuals and the Divine has to be presented in their level to be connected. Masters have created wonderful techniques to connect to the ultimate from different levels. Swamiji then beautifully goes on to describe the eight levels of growth that beings need to go through: 1. Worship of all deities, 2. Worship of one diety, 3. Japa or mantra to look inwards, 4. Meditating and visualizing one form, 5. Just Smarana, rememberance (Lila Dhyana), 6. Relax, Rejuvenate, Radiate…

In today’s fast-paced world driven by competition, a natural by-product of the improved efficiency and productivity is the stress that has now become a part of our day-to-day lives.

If we can handle our stress and focus our energy constructively and creatively, it will result in both improved efficiency as well as increased personal fulfillment. This one change can make a sea change in the quality of both our personal and professional lives.

A safe, powerful and effective means of relieving stress directly is meditation. Meditation addresses the very root cause of stress - the mind. Nithya Dhyaan, designed by Paramahamsa Nithyananda, an enlightened Master, is a meditation technique specifically for the modern mind.

Background of Nithya Dhyaan

Up to the age of 11, Paramahamsa Nithyananda subjected himself to numerous meditation techniques. At the age of 12, he had his first deep spiritual experience. From 12 to 21 years of age, he consciously scanned and analyzed the benefits of several techniques. For three years after enlightenment, he created a sound technology to reproduce his experience of enlightenment in others. He set up his mission in 2003, and since then, has been working with millions of people world wide through his techniques. The essence of this entire inner world research till date is the Nithya Dhyaan meditation technique.

Nithya Dhyaan is a formula, a technique, which doesn’t focus on any particular aspect of the being, but works on the entire being to create a complete cognitive shift from stress to perceiving life as an exciting challenge every moment, every situation giving the opportunity to explore the multi-dimensions of your unbounded potential. It is an everyday meditation for eternal bliss -Nithya Ananda.

Benefits of Nithya Dhyaan

The half an hour of Nithya Dhyaan meditation can give you…

  • Relief from stress
  • Improved relationships
  • Inner peace and fulfillment
  • Awakened intuition
  • Regulated blood pressure
  • Enhanced sleep patterns
  • Increased clarity
  • Increased energy levels for the whole day Connection to the Divine energy

Master's message in Guru Poornima 2007

I welcome you all with my love and respects.

Dear Swamis, Ananda Samajis, Ashramites, Disciples and Devotees from all over the world.

First of all, I give you my heartfelt blessings on this Guru’s day - Guru Poornima

This is a day to remember the Masters - all the Gurus, all the enlightened Beings. Traditions of inner Science respect Masters, enlightened Beings, as equal to or sometimes much more than God.

Who is a Guru?

He is a person who has achieved the Ultimate Truth as an experience and who can create the technology, the techniques, to reproduce the same experience in any human being. He is the one who can initiate others into the same experience that happened in him.

Understand the word initiation:

Initiation means making shaastra or knowledge into shastra or weapon, to fight your ignorance. If you are made to understand that whatever is seen is a projection of the seer, that it is the same stuff as what your dreams are made up of, then suddenly you will be out of your depression, stress and tension that is created by the outer world. Just know that your outer world is made of the same stuff as your dreams. You can be made to understand this by an Enlightened Master, by his words, by his body language.

Whenever you are in depression or stress, take these shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons. They will bring you out of your depression.

The person who gives this shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons, through his words, techniques and body language is a Guru.

The person who receives this shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons, through the Guru, is the Initiated.

Masters may be expressing so many different ideas. Suddenly, some idea will ‘click’ for you. It will bring you out of depression. Suddenly, the shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons will come out and bail you out of depression.

The totality of this shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons sitting inside you is your inner Guru. Till the inner Guru is awakened, the outer Guru works on you. He works through words, techniques, his body language, and gives you the confidence to use the knowledge and above all to live the life of an enlightened Being.

A Master is a person who has created a Technology to reproduce the same Ultimate Experience that happened in him. Initiation is the technique. It is the shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons, to raise yourself again and again to Higher Consciousness.

Blessed are those who had that ‘click’ with enlightened Beings. This click is not through logic. Suddenly, some words from the Master will get connected to your heart. You will suddenly know that he is your Master; that this is your path. That click is the initiation. Whoever felt this click through the Master’s words, his teachings, books, blessings, techniques, energy, or body language are blessed.

Today is the day to remember the great things added to your life through that initiation and to remember the great enlightened Beings who gave this initiation. To remember the dheeksha and the Guru, the concept of Guru Poornima was created.

Guru is a promise; he is not just an ideal.

Understand: the seed is always afraid of breaking open, of rupturing. The seed which ruptures and opens becomes a tree. The tree needs to give courage to the other seeds by saying: don’t be afraid, you will never die by breaking; you will only live; you will only expand like me. But the seed is waiting for the tree to happen and the tree is waiting for the seed to open!

I know the Truth what I am speaking. Oh! Sons of immortality, have the courage to walk.

This energy, this inspiration is the Guru. Today is the day to recount all that has been added to your life after the advent of the Master in your life. From the Master’s side it is an advent; from your side it is an adventure!

After the Master entered your inner space, all that has happened in it, it is time to remember, so that the trust, courage and confidence to open up is strengthened. Guru Poornima is for the disciple, not for the Master. For the Master, every day is a celebration - Nithya Utsav!

Take these two as my messages today:

Again and again, use the ‘clicks’ or initiation that have happened in your life. Any weapon not used will not only lose its power on you, but you will also forget how to use it. Again and again, the weapons that are actually used will bring clarity and courage to you and you will have the intelligence to use them also.

Add more and more of them to your life by listening to the Master’s words and use them. Add them to your inner space. Create a family, friends, a circle, which will constantly give you the courage and inspiration to use the shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons.

Second: understand that a disciple-disciple relationship always leads to hell. Only when a disciple encourages or helps you to use the shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons and increases your devotion and trust towards the Master, only at those moments, the disciple-disciple relationship can be tolerated. Only at those moments, he is a channel for the Master’s energy. Never ever tolerate it if it is not adding strength to the Master’s words.

Use these shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons, again and again and bring yourself back to the Higher Consciousness. Create a community around you which encourages you to use this Knowledge - weapons to live the life of enlightened Beings; to express the experience of Masters in the day-to-day life; above all, to strengthen the devotion towards the Master.

In the name of sanga, the disciple-disciple relationship leads to vipareeda gnana - where you pick up only the words convenient to you out of ignorance. In this, both the guys are in ignorance and they judge the Master. As a result, both are at loss. When this happens, you need not travel to go to hell; you will straightaway be in hell. Don’t allow it to happen to you through dussanga - wrong connection with people.

So acquire and use the shaastras - shastras: Knowledge - weapons and create a community around you which encourages and strengthens the devotion towards the Master, which helps you internalize the Master’s words and leads you to Eternal Bliss - Nithyananda! This is my Guru Poornima message to all the people around the world. I bless you all on this Guru Poornima day with my heart and being. The enlightenment that happened in this body, let it radiate. Let you all experience, imbibe and live it.

I bless you all: let you all achieve and radiate the same Experience. Let you all achieve and radiate Eternal Bliss - Nithyananda.

Thank you.
